I am back and let me tell you I am sooooooooooo jetlagged that I feel like I have a hangover from the best party ever. I am taking it easy and getting back into the swing of things, but I wanted to share with you some of my images from our trip and thoughts. Let me start by saying traveling is the best way to realize just how much you love home. Don’t get me wrong I would not trade this trip for anything in the world, but home is definitely where the heart is. I adored Norway, it was such a beautiful place with such friendly people. My bride and groom were AMAZING hosts and I felt so honored to be there with them on their wedding day. We had our adventures and created stories to tell future generations and created one of my most favorite images ever, but there is a back story to that image so when I blog it I will share then.
Italy was, well, fabulously surreal. To be surrounded by such artistry inspired me and reminded me of what it means to be an artist. We get so caught up in twittering and facebooking that we cloud our lives with things that really don’t enrich it in any way, if anything they get in our way to see clearly. I think I will continue on my social media diet and rewind time to a day where passion and life experiences drove creativity. Too often I am bogged down by who is doing what and comparing my self to others that I forget that my voice is unique because it is mine and mine alone. I love the clarity and freshness I felt while disconnected to the buzzing of updates and tweets. So I promised myself to just focus on what I love and continue to build upon those experiences that make me me. It is the curse and gift of an artist to have a love hate relationship with their work, I suppose part of what makes us artists is emotional vulnerability.
I treasured the time I spent away and the things I saw blew my mind and reshaped my view. Taking a little break in the craziness of wedding season I think is a pretty good idea to rejuvenate the soul. I have some amazing couples getting married and I am so looking forward to each and every wedding. How lucky am I to be able to say that? I work with some of the most thoughtful, funny, and beautiful inside and out people. And every day is another day for me to create something that leaves a mark that I was here just like those artists whose work I admired in Italy. Mine may not be seen by as many or be in a museum, but I know that generations from now will see my photos and get a glimpse of who and where they came from, and to me that is pretty damn cool.
Italia!!!
